When determining where to purchase fuel always look at prices “net” of state fuel tax. If you aren’t basing your decisions in this manner you could be paying too much for fuel. For example, in the chart below Tennessee has the lowest retail price per gallon.

However, when you take out the “state fuel tax” Georgia becomes the hands-down cheapest fuel. Georgia appears to be $0.03 per gallon more expensive than gallons purchased in Tennessee, however based on STATE TAX it is actually $0.09 per gallon cheaper when you go to file your IFTA reports.
